Videos are distorted. How can I change this?

There is small white square in the lower right corner of the player next to the volume control. By a click on the square the video is played in full size. After re-clicking on the square, the video is played again in the original, smaller version, but now without distortion. Distortions occur mainly in combination of older versions of the Internet Explorer with a 16:9 screen.
